How many tabs do you have open?
If you’re like most people, it's more than one. In fact, several studies show the vast majority keep many tabs open. Some people 20 or more.
- We open tabs to read later.
- We open tabs so we don't forget a site.
- We open several tabs at the same time to read one by one.
- We keep tabs open to easily get back to websites we visit often.
But if you own a website, it's a problem because
sometimes people NEVER come back.
They plan on checking out your site later and just never get to it before they close their browser or their browser crashes.
Or they are "page parking" a bunch of links and they find your competitor before they get to your site. Page parking is how the Millennials surf all the time by right-clicking on a bunch of links and select "Open in a new tab."
This chart shows a study done on users while shopping.
On average, they open 7 tabs in under a minute!
Check out this quote from the study:
"We used to say that on the web, your competition is only a click away. That’s why anything but an awesome website is a loser. With page parking, this old argument is ratcheted up a notch: now, several of your competitors’ sites have already been opened and are parked in tabs next to your site."
